Sam Schofield is an engraver, designer, astrologer, and immersive artist who marries traditional craft with contemporary ideas. Raised in an artistic household, he later chose to apprentice under his father, master artist Walter Lee Schofield. He has trained with Walter for more than ten years and holds a Hand Engraving certification from GRS LLC.

Through Snowfire, Sam creates hand-engraved knives, jewelry, and custom pieces that combine traditional ornament with symbolism and modern storytelling. His work preserves the visible character of the artist’s hand while exploring how personal meaning can be carried through physical objects.

Sam is also the creator and designer of the Temple of the Two-Headed Serpent, an interactive installation built with support from Element 11 art grants and a collaborative team. Its central experience, Speaking to the Dead, invites visitors to use a wind phone to speak to someone who has died, record a message, or listen to words left by another participant.

As Youth Engagement Director for the Utah Tyler Foundation, Sam uses the Temple to support conversations around grief, community, and teen suicide prevention. He believes difficult emotions do not always need to be fixed or institutionalized; sometimes people need a safe place to be heard and feel less alone.

Sam has also studied astrology for four years and currently mentors with True Will Studios. Through natal-chart readings, he helps clients recognize their natural strengths, understand their patterns, and work with their own design rather than continually fighting against it.

Across metal, immersive environments, and astrology, Sam’s work uses symbols to create greater meaning, self-understanding, and human connection.
